NEWS STORY
The Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ardmore is officially announcing the relocation of their church to 120 Veterans Boulevard. The site is 28 acres on the Southeast corner of Mt. Washington and Veterans Blvd. (Highway 142). The church is under contract with Keith Miller Architect and Associates from Little Rock, Arkansas. Plans for the project should be finalized in the near future. The fundraising effort for the three million plus facility has been underway for the past three years and is still ongoing.
The church was organized in 1896 and in May will celebrate its 113th Anniversary. Originally located on the corner of 5th (now Lake Murray Drive) and D SE, Emmanuel Baptist moved to its current location at 4th & C St SE in 1920. The current Auditorium was built in 1955 and other buildings were added to the plant in 1958, 1965, 1983 and 2001. Since Pastor Donny Custar was called in 1996, the church has been blessed with very steady growth. In September of 2005 the church transitioned to two morning worship services because of the growth. “It is now apparent that the church can best serve Ardmore and the surrounding area by relocating to a new facility in a more accessible location,” says Pastor Custar. He further states, “Our Associate Pastor, Kevin Russell, has been at the church for 12 years and our Minister of Music and Education, Steven Johnson, has served 15 years so as you can see our staff has a long term commitment to Ardmore. Our new building insures that Emmanuel Baptist Church will continue to be a fixture in the City of Ardmore for years to come.” According to Pastor Custar, the date for groundbreaking is pending at this time. Funding, architectural changes and financing are all factors in setting the date construction will begin.
